| New High-Durability Latex Introduced at Traffic Expo '99 in San Antonio |
| Recent tests on latex traffic paint have yielded a surprising discovery: Paint lines that last more than two years, with 18-month retroreflectivity readings over 200 millicandellas. The product is a new high-build latex that is applied at twice the mil thickness of conventional traffic paints. It has been on test decks across the nation for over two years. The search for durable traffic marking materials started with the desire for more environmentally-friendly products in the early 90s, and really began heating up in the last year or two as government agencies looked for solutions to short marking life in high-wear areas. Traditionally the answer has been perceived to be plural component products or epoxies. These alternatives to traffic paint are expensive and labor-intensive to install, and some have failed to adequately answer the retroreflectivity concerns of today. The new latex technology, on the other hand, is no more costly than traffic paint to install and durability and retroreflectivity are two to four times what has become the current standard. "This high-build latex is the most promising solution for the average political subdivision," asserts EZ-Liner® General Manager Donald W. Vermeer. "It can be applied with conventional airless or air spray striping equipment using standard application techniques, and it costs a fraction of what other durables cost."
